EMBO/EMBC Annual Report 2007

EMBO Membership is a life-long honour.

Leading scientists are nominated and elected annually to become EMBO Members, recognising their proven excellence in research. Members number more than 1300 today, in Europe and worldwide. Forty-eight scientists from the EMBO Membership have received the Nobel Prize. Both individually and as a group, EMBO Members have significant opportunities to directly influence the direction of European life sciences.

More than an illustrious academy, at least half of the EMBO Membership is involved in guiding the execution of the many EMBO initiatives offered to life scientists. EMBO Members actively participate in the EMBO Council, Committees and Advisory Editorial Boards.

New members are welcomed annually at an EMBO Member Reception during The EMBO Meeting. The diverse research backgrounds amongst the membership guarantees lively discussion amongst participants from all corners of the molecular life sciences community. Additional highlights of The EMBO Meeting include lectures from a Nobel Laureate who is also an EMBO Member and from the annual winner of the EMBO Gold Medal Award.

EMBO Membership Election
In January of each year, documents related to the membership election are mailed to the EMBO members. The candidates to be elected are those who have been nominated the previous year.
The next nomination deadline for ordinary and associate membership nominations is 1 February 2009.
