The European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) in partnership with Nature Publishing Group (NPG), jointly publish Molecular Systems Biology. A peer-reviewed author-pays online journal that publishes full-length papers and accompanying synopses describing original research in the field of molecular systems biology and which focuses on the analysis, integration and modeling of molecular and cellular phenomena. It is the first journal to be dedicated solely to the emerging fields of molecular systems biology and synthetic biology. Molecular Systems Biology is also the first publication to implement pioneering new systems biology technologies in the presentation of articles and data.

Molecular Systems Biology publishes papers describing the properties and behavior of complex biological systems in terms of molecular components and their interactions. Since molecular systems biology relies on a variety of computational and high-throughput technologies, the journal makes full use of multimedia resources to allow reader interaction with data and models presented in the published articles.

Topics falling within the scope of the journal include, but are not limited to:

• Proteomics
• Metabolomics
• Functional genomics
• Structural genomics
• Transcriptomics
• Computational biology
• Bioinformatics
• Theoretical biology
• Mathematical biology
• Synthetic biology
